Don Caprio Free Blogger Template

You can download a template and install it but adding certain customizations might be tedious especially if you're not quite used to HTML editing. I decided to do the little I can to solve this by creating a template with lots of widgets added to the html source. This template is actually a variation of Fortune blogger template by Lasantha of PremiumBloggerTemplates but this looks a lot different from that. I re-sized the sidebars to 200px each and added some color to the sidebars which was initially white.

Other features added include:

-Read more (automatic post summary)
-Facebook like button
-Google plus button
-Numbered page navigation (improved)
-Large share buttons below posts

Note:

To edit the header links, go to Design > Edit HTML and search for the anchor text. For example, if you need the header link titled Blogging, search for Blogging in the template. You should see something like this:

<li><a href='http://www.doncaprio.com/search/label/Blogger?&amp;max-results=6'>Blogging</a>

You only need to change the letters in red to your own address and anchor text that will shown at the header.

Wanna say thanks? Keeping the footer credit is just enough. Thanks!

How To Edit Blogger Mobile Template

I was surprised this morning when i visited a blog hosted on blogger with my mobile phone and got the mobile view displayed. Blogger launched it's mobile version about a couple of months back but only high end devices could be automatically detected and I decided to use a third party script from mobstac.

There has been a lot of improvement on the new blogger mobile template as it now detects a wider range of mobile devices including mobile browsers like Opera Mini. You can as well edit the new mobile template and select your desired blogger mobile theme:

-Log in to draft.blogger.com

-Click on the settings drop down and select Template

-Click the mobile template settings icon

-If you haven't enabled it before, select "Yes, show a mobile version of your current template"

- From here you can select from the available mobile theme.

I hope the option to edit mobile theme HTML will be made available soon as the current mobile themes are somehow limited in terms of functionality.

Google Adsense For Mobile

Google adsense for mobile displays on the mobile theme if you have added at least one of your google adsense ads through blogger widget. I didn't enable ads between posts but I saw one adsense for mobile unit when viewing this blog with an Android smartphone. It seems ads are only enabled for high end mobile devices as I couldn't see them when viewing through Opera Mini. Just like I said earlier, certain improvements need to be done to perfect this new, exciting feature.

How To Make Your Blog Mobile Friendly

Google introduced mobile templates to blogger a few months ago but it only supported few templates back then and only high-end smartphones could be detected automatically. It was however announced on bloggerbuzz yesterday that the mobile template will now be available to everyone and all 27 Template Designer templates are now fully supported.

Many bloggers have waited so long for this feature as seen on wordpress blogs and now it's finally here. When enabled, your blog is automatically formatted to a much lighter version which can be easily rendered on mobile. Almost all widgets are stripped off and scrolling is only vertical. This mobile template cannot yet be customized but we hope the customization feature is added real soon.

In mobile view, only one adsense for mobile unit is shown at the top of the page and one is also shown below label pages if you have enabled adsense between posts already. The only setback is that the adsense for mobile shown is only compatible with smartphones. It doesn't show on Opera Mini, Nokia native browsers and other phones.

According to bloggerbuzz, only those using high end smartphones will be automatically redirected to the mobile version. To enable mobile template:

-Log in to http://draft.blogger.com

-Go to Settings > Email & Mobile

-Select "Yes. On mobile devices, show the mobile version of my template."

-Save your settings.

That's all you need to do. And for your visitors using third party mobile browsers like opera mini and those not using smartphones, you can still place a link somewhere around the header for the mobile version. For exmample, the mobile version of this blog is http://www.doncaprio.com/?m=1

It's indeed a commendable feature anticipated for so long but there's still a lot of improvement to be made on this mobile template as I'm not yet satisfied with it. I don't think it should be optimized for smartphones only! :( I don't use one. lol
