Ping On Android, iPhone, Nokia S40 and S60 Like Blackberry

One of the key features of BlackBerrry phones which other smartphones lack is the ability to ping other BlackBerry phones. A BlackBerry ping is but one way to get another BlackBerry owner's attention, this allows two BlackBerry owners to communicate instantly like instant messenger on your computer. WhatsApp is a cross platform application that makes this exclusive BlackBerrry feature available on other smartphones like Android, iPhone, Symbian S60V3, S60V5, Symbian ^3 and Symbian Anna! And just of recent, WhatsApp developers released a beta version for Nokia S40 phones.

With WhatsApp, you can send unlimited pings to friends you have using WhatsApp Messenger. It uses your internet data plan, the data transfer is almost negligible and it's more or less sending unlimited free text messages.

Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to send messages and stay in touch with your friends and family. Apart from basic messaging, iPhone, Android, Nokia and BlackBerry WhatsApp Messenger users can send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.

Unlike BlackBerry messenger, you can ping other users using different mobile devices and your PIN is simply your phone number.

MTN Free Browsing On Opera And Bolt Handler

The last post I made on MTN free browsing on Opera 6 Handler isn't working any longer because their main site used to power the old trick doesn't work anymore. This post works as at the time of making this post - Aug 04, 2011.

APN - web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Username - web
Password - web
IP Address - 010.199.212.002
Port - 8080

You can as well request for MTN default settings by sending SETTINGS in a text message to 3888.

In case you use a java phone such as Nokia 3310, Nokia 6300, Nokia 5310 and the rest of them that won't connect java applications using MTN default settings, download this proxy file and actvate it as default in all applications. Click here to learn more about proxy files.

Download MTN Prov file from Capriofiles

FOR OPERA 6 HANDLER UI200

Download Cast Opera 6 from Capriofiles
Download Cast Opera 6 from Hotfile

Install Opera 6 and input the following settings:
Primary Server - http://82.145.208.68
Secondary Server - http://82.145.208.68

Proxy Type - host
Proxy Server - 41.220.77.210
Front Query - 10.199.212.8@ (required for S40 Nokia phones)

Save and launch!

FOR BOLT 2.10 HANDLER UI150

I prefer this versionof bolt on MTN for a certain reason: you can edit the bolt server you intend to use. The latest bolt handler version (Bolt 2.50 Handler) I came across wouldn't work with MTN because some bolt servers won't work on MTN. I guesses they were blocked.

Download casts_bolt210handlerui150.jar from Capriofiles

Use MTN default settings or the s40 proxy file above. Configure Bolt as follows:

Custom HTTP Server - http://us27.boltbrowser.com

Host - 41.220.77.210

Front Query - 10.199.212.8@ (required for S40 phones)

LATEST UPDATE - 19th August, 2011

The trick above seems to be no longer working. The new settings below is quite similar to the one above but the host server is different. It's actually on of MTN's old free sites.

For Opera 6 Handler

Primary Server - http://82.145.208.68
Secondary Server - http://82.145.208.68

Proxy Type - host
Proxy Server - wap.mtnonlineplay.com
Front Query - 10.199.212.8@ (required for S40 Nokia phones)

For Bolt Handler 2.10

Custom HTTP Server - http://us27.boltbrowser.com

Host - wap.mtnonlineplay.com

Front Query - 10.199.212.8@ (required for S40 phones)

The settings work with MTN default settings and the prov files above.

Read Nokia Security Code Through USB

Perhaps you changed your Nokia phone security code in a hurry and forgot the next time you're to use the phone. It might even be that someone else did or you might just decide to read someone else's phone security code. Whatever the case may be, this tutorial explains how to read a Nokia phone existing security code without necessarily changing it back to the default 12345 or flashing the phone.

[ANT] Simple is a tiny program that reads the security code of any Nokia phone that supports USB connection mode.

1. Downoad [ANT] Simple

2. If you have Nokia PC Suite running, be sure to close it by exiting from the taskbar icon.

2. Extract [ANT] Simple ] and run Simple.exe located in the folder

4. Connect the phone vis USB to the computer

4. On the MAIN tab, click on GET. Your phone IMEI number and model should be displayed on the bottom panel as shown below

5. Now click on the SERVICE tab and click on GET button under USER CODE

6. Your security code should now be dispalyed on the right side of the application waindow.

S40 Prov File / Proxy Configuration File

A prov file is a proxy configuration file written in xml format which is an extension of Nokia s40 phones proxy settings. It contains the IP address, proxy port number, the access point name, username and password of the network operator.

Some internet java applications never seem to connect on certain Nokia S40 phones and this is where prov file/proxy file comes in. It enables such application to connect to the access point.

When a prov file is sent to a Nokia s40 phone, it doesn't get saved in the file manager like other files such as media and application, rather, it appears as a configuration settings the way our local network providers settings would do if we request provisioninal settings. For example, when an MTN Nigeria subscriber sends SETTINGS to 3888, MTN will automatically send a prov file to the phone making it appear like a configuration settings.
When a prov is sent to an s40 phone, this is where it has effect menu>>settings>>config settings>>default config settings and prefered access point settings

For it to have this effect, you don't sent it with a usb cable or through mms, you send it via a wireless connection e.g, infrared or bluetooth.

When the prov file has been sent, locate where it'll have the effect as was directed above, activate the new settings, go back once and locate Activate default in all app. Select it and head to prefered access point settings where you'll choose the appropriate access point for your default settings. (though some settings'll automatically choose it's access point, depending on the compilation)

There are different ways to create a procv file. You can create it online at our mobile site

Click here to create your proxy file online

You can as well create it offline on your computer by using an application called Proxy File Generator

How to Use Your Mobile Phone as Webcam

If you happen to be stuck with a personal computer with no webcam and wish to have video chat with your friends on Skype and MSN every once in a while, then this application is just for you. Smartcam turns your mobile phone to a webcam easily. It doesn't matter whether all you have is a nokia or sony ericsson java phone, a symbian third edition phone or a smartphone running on Android OS. You need to install the Windows executable file on your computer and the install the other application on your phone. You need to select the one compatible with your phone operating system.

In the symbian app, there are three connection types:

* Bluetooth
* USB Cable
* WiFi

I've only actually tried the bluetooth connection and it worked perfectly well.

The J2ME App only has bluetooth as the only available connection type.
I haven't tested the webcam application with any Android smartphone but I guess it should work too.

To turn your phone to a webcam, follow the steps below:

1. Run the .exe file on your pc and then run .sis, .jar or .apk file on your mobile phone.

Download the PC software
Download SmartCam.exe From Capriofiles
Download SmartCam.exe From Hotfile

Download a compatible version for your phone operating system

Download SmartCam for s60V3 from Capriofiles
Download SmartCam for s60V3 from Hotfile

Download SmartCam for J2ME (Jave phones) from Capriofiles
Download SmartCam for J2ME (Jave phones) from Hotfile

Download SmartCam for Android from Capriofiles
Download SmartCam for Android from Hotfile

2. Now connect your mobile to pc using Bluetooth.
You might as well try other connection modes but as WiFi works on a friend's Nokia 5800

3. Run the Smartcam program from the desktop.

4. Open Smartcam in your cell phone as well.

5. Now you're running the application both on your phone and pc, you will have to pair your mobile to your pc with the bluetooth as a meddium of connection.

6. On the PC program, go to File > Settings and select bluetooth as your mode of connection.

7. In your cell phone select connect and choose the computer device.

8. If you've successfully paired your phone with the computer, you’ll see through cell phone’s camera in your computer.

9. Just run your IM application and the smartcam program will be detected as a webcam.
